Founded in 2005, our office brings together skills in action-led research, urban design strategy, architecture and place making with a detailed understanding of how the physical fabric of buildings can be accompanied by innovative, engaging and collaborative processes.
Modernism and Postmodernism have been criticised by some members of the architectural profession who feel that successful architecture is not a personal, philosophical, or aesthetic pursuit by individualists; rather it has to consider everyday needs of people and use technology to create liveable environments, with the design process being informed by studies of behavioral, environmental, and social sciences. The program is intended for students aspiring to design in the fields of architecture and interior design and operate as independent designers or in other options in the field. The objective of the program of the Department of Interior Building & Environment Design is to qualify professional researchers and designers to face problems requiring multi-disciplinary knowledge (of engineering and design).
Interior designers use design techniques to make the best visual and physical use of space; they plan and organise the design of commercial and domestic interiors such as offices, hotels, shops, public buildings, ships, aircraft and homes. Interior designers must address challenges, such as construction delays and the high cost or sudden unavailability of certain materials, while keeping the project on time and within budget. Interior designers need to be imaginative in selecting furnishings and fabrics and in creating spaces that serve the client’s needs and fit the client’s lifestyle.
Corporate designers create interior designs for professional workplaces from small office settings to large-scale corporations within high-rise buildings. Throughout the design process, interior designers often use building information modeling (BIM) software to create three-dimensional visualizations that include construction elements such as walls or roofs. Interior designers make interior spaces functional, safe, and beautiful for almost every type of building.
The professional Interior Designer is qualified by education, experience, and examination to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces. In addition, both HGTV and the DIY Network also televise many programs about interior design and decorating, featuring the works of a variety of interior designers, decorators, and home improvement experts in a myriad of projects. Interior design is the art and science of understanding people’s behavior to create functional spaces within a building.
Columbus, Indiana has a population of only 44,000, but it’s a surprising trove of Modernism: The town claims more than 70 buildings designed by star architects, including I.M. Pei, Eero Saarinen , and Richard Meier. Finally, it includes interviews from Pritzker Prize executive director – and Dean of the school of Architecture and design at IE – Martha Thorne, with a number of award winning practising architects such as Sarah Wigglesworth and Cristoph Ingenhoven. This fascinating content is delivered principally from the stunning design studio at the IE school of Architecture and features external videos from a few beautiful locations in the city of Segovia.

Leers Weinzapfel Associates is a Boston-based, award-winning practice specializing in architecture, urban design, and infrastructure projects. As architects, we develop an intimacy with the building through the process of design that provides us with a deep understanding and respect towards each element that is introduced into the environment. The Master in Architecture educates future architects with specific additional skills in research and knowledge in the field of urban design particular to European urbanism and globalisation.
A British School at Rome Architecture Award enables architects and architectural historians to immerse themselves in this visually stunning city whilst also benefiting from the BSR’s internationally-important Architectural exhibition programme and its unique residential research community. ^ A project architect is one who is responsible for ensuring the design is built correctly and who administers building contracts – in non-specialist architectural practices the project architect is also the design architect and the term refers to the differing roles the architect plays at differing stages of the process. Robert Venturi famously defined postmodern architecture as a “decorated shed” (an ordinary building which is functionally designed inside and embellished on the outside), and upheld it against modernist and brutalist “ducks” (buildings with unnecessarily expressive tectonic forms).
